Service Description

Course description  This course will run on Tuesdays at 2pm UKT / 9pm HKT from 06.06.2023 for eight weeks. A stuffed rabbit sewn from velveteen is given as a Christmas present to a small boy. The boy plays with his other new presents and forgets the velveteen rabbit for a time. These presents are modern and mechanical, and they snub the old-fashioned velveteen rabbit. The wisest and oldest toy in the nursery, the Skin Horse, which was owned by the boy's uncle, tells the rabbit about toys magically becoming real due to love from children: "Real isn't how you are made... It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become real". The rabbit is awed by this idea, but his chances of achieving this wish are slight. Lesson 1 - Introducing the context and main character (what would your toy say / feel if they could speak) Lesson 2 - Character profiles (understanding the different characters and learning how to describe them using evidence from the text - grammar on how to correctly quote evidence from a text). Lesson 3 - Writing as the rabbit (formality, vocabulary, expression, emphasis, pausing - sentence lengths to achieve the desired effect). Lesson 4 - The Rabbits' complaint (complaint letter writing) Lesson 5 - The theme of love and the impact of that on the rabbit (poem writing part 1) Lesson 6 - Poem writing part 2 Lesson 7 - Writing in the style of the book Lesson 8 - Writing your review of the book (formal creative writing) All learning will be consolidated with lesson feedback reports which outline the key features of the lesson, ensuring that the knowledge gained can be reviewed and revisited at the child's pleasure.  A Zoom link and welcome pack will be sent to you via email. If you don't receive this before the first class, please check your spam / junk folder. Failing that, please send us an email.  I can't wait to get started, see you there!

Cancellation Policy

In order to cancel a lesson, please notify the tutor 24 hours before the lesson is due to begin. This gives the tutor a fair opportunity to fill your slot. The minimum requirement to cancel a session is 12 hours before the class is due to start. If a class is cancelled less than 6 hours before, the account may be charged for that class at the tutor’s discretion.  All cancellation and reschedule requests should be made by parents/guardians rather than by students (under 18) and sent via email (contact@mlukenglish.com) or WhatsApp (+44 7782554789). For lessons in which the student appears to be late, the tutor is obliged to wait for 15 minutes before leaving the meeting. If the student does not connect and if contact has not been made by the parents prior to the lesson or during the waiting time, the lesson will be classed as a ‘no show’ and automatically cancelled. The account may be charged at the tutor’s discretion.  When purchasing a package of lessons or a course, the client agrees to attend the scheduled lessons. Therefore, if three or more classes are cancelled consecutively, the account may be permanently terminated. In this case, a refund of 80% of the remaining fee for the package or course purchased will be issued to the client. The remaining 20% will be held by the tutor as an administration fee.  If the client purchases a package of lessons or a course but decides to terminate the course, an administration fee of 20% of the total cost will be charged. The outstanding balance will be refunded to the client. This does not affect your statutory rights.  Regarding group classes only, if a student is unable to attend a lesson, parents can request that the lesson be recorded and sent in order for the student to review. In these cases, the tutor should be notified six hours before the class is due to begin.  If the tutor needs to cancel a session, they should also aim for 24 hours with a minimum of 12 hours. In extreme cases, this may not be adhered to, but a make-up class should be offered to the student as soon as possible.  Some classes may be recorded for training and marketing purposes. By purchasing a service, the client agrees to the terms above.
